Turmeric and Ginger Tea Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Fresh ginger root: 1-inch piece

  • Fresh turmeric root: 1-inch piece (or 1 teaspoon ground turmeric)

  • Water: 4 cups

  • Honey or maple syrup: 1-2 tablespoons (optional, for sweetness)

  • Lemon juice: from half a lemon

  • Black pepper: a pinch (to enhance turmeric absorption)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Roots: Rinse the ginger and turmeric roots. Slice them thinly, no need to peel. If you're using ground turmeric, skip this step.

  2. Boil the Ingredients: In a pot, combine the slices of ginger and turmeric with 4 cups of water. Bring the mixture to a boil.

  3. Simmer: Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes. If you want a stronger flavor, simmer for a longer time.

  4. Add Flavorings: After simmering, turn off the heat. If you're using ground turmeric, stir it in now. Add the lemon juice and a pinch of black pepper.

  5. Sweeten (Optional): If you like your tea sweet, add honey or maple syrup to taste.

  6. Strain and Serve: Strain the tea into cups. Serve hot.

  7. Enjoy: Enjoy your homemade turmeric and ginger tea!

Tips:

  • Always add black pepper when using turmeric, as it contains piperine which enhances the absorption of curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric).

  • You can store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat before serving.

  • Adjust the amount of ginger and turmeric according to your taste preference.
