Turmeric and Ginger Tea Recipe
Ingredients:
Fresh ginger root: 1-inch piece
Fresh turmeric root: 1-inch piece (or 1 teaspoon ground turmeric)
Water: 4 cups
Honey or maple syrup: 1-2 tablespoons (optional, for sweetness)
Lemon juice: from half a lemon
Black pepper: a pinch (to enhance turmeric absorption)
Instructions:
Prepare the Roots: Rinse the ginger and turmeric roots. Slice them thinly, no need to peel. If you're using ground turmeric, skip this step.
Boil the Ingredients: In a pot, combine the slices of ginger and turmeric with 4 cups of water. Bring the mixture to a boil.
Simmer: Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes. If you want a stronger flavor, simmer for a longer time.
Add Flavorings: After simmering, turn off the heat. If you're using ground turmeric, stir it in now. Add the lemon juice and a pinch of black pepper.
Sweeten (Optional): If you like your tea sweet, add honey or maple syrup to taste.
Strain and Serve: Strain the tea into cups. Serve hot.
Enjoy: Enjoy your homemade turmeric and ginger tea!
Tips:
Always add black pepper when using turmeric, as it contains piperine which enhances the absorption of curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric).
You can store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat before serving.
Adjust the amount of ginger and turmeric according to your taste preference.
